"The weight doesn't matter" myth for getting bigger.
What’s up everyone.
Back on here again today dispelling another myth that is doing the rounds again on the internet.
If I had a dollar for every time I heard “the weight doesn’t matter” “It’s all about the squeeze” etc I’d be laughing all the way to the bank.
Let’s completely bust “The weight doesn’t matter” myth that you sometimes see.
Mechanical tension is always the driving force behind hypertrophy.
The body doesn’t know if the resistance it’s receiving is coming from a loaded barbell or a shopping bag…but our body does know one is HEAVIER than the other.
It will then recruit muscle fibres as needed in order to complete the task at hand.
If we aren’t doing work to force an adaptive response…we aren’t gonna drive the internal stimulus needed to force adaptation and grow bigger over time.
This is why it’s important to drive our loading up slowly in that 5-30 rep range over time with good technique to provide enough mechanical tension for adaptation.
If the weight didn’t matter we’d all be fucking about with the shopping bags at home.
There’s a reason the biggest humans on the planet can also shift some serious weight with good technique.
